Check Out These Ideas about how To Make Your Own Cat Food
If you are going to make your own cat food, be sure to remember a couple of important things.
One thing to remember is that cats are not vegetarians. While they can eat some vegetable matter,
they are unable to live long on a completely meat-free diet. Also, an average adult cat’s weight should
be between 9 and 11 lbs. Keep an eye on weight to avoid obesity which will shorten the length of your
cat’s life. And lastly, realize that cats are nutritionally very demanding animals that need a high level
of fat and protein in the diet.
This will best be provided by reputable manufacturers.
- Cooked Meat - give your cat an occasional treat by cooking it some fresh lamb, fish, beef or pork.
The meat can be boiled, baked or grilled and it
should be cooled and chopped into small chunks before serving. Don’t add a bunch of spices.
- Cooked Meat with Pasta - add a small amount of potato or rice or pasta to make the meat go further.
Vegetables and carbohydrates should only be a small amount of your cat’s diet.
- Cooked Meat with Vegetables - cooked peas, carrots or greens can be added to meat for extra vitamins.
- Cooked Poultry - your cat can eat any of the leftover portions of chicken, including skin and giblets.
Be sure to cut into small pieces and remove the bones.
- Cooked Fish - fish such as scrod, cod or haddock is good. It should never be served raw. Poached or steamed is best and be sure to remove bones.
- Canned Sardines, Mackerel, or Herring - a nutritious treat
- Canned Tuna or Salmon - make a good occasional treat - make sure all bones are removed
- Other Good Options - lightly scrambled eggs, oatmeal or baby cereal can be a good treat for kittens.
